Abundant Coin Forgery

A brief update. The BBC have released a “Spot the difference” themed video alerting the British consumers of the differences between a real and a fake £1 coin.

Whilst this might sound a bit ridiculous, apparently the Royal Mint has recently realised that their estimates of fake currency being used in the UK is almost under half of the actual figures. That is alarming for everyone.

Not using cash, I dont have to worry about this in the immediate instance, but the broader picture of our society is quite worrying –  we are so busy spending our money that we aren’t even really looking at it properly!

  • Hello – I called in after reading the article in today’s Telegraph on your attempt of a cashless year. Managed to find you despite the printed error in your blog address.

I’m not sure I could manage being cashless in sleepy east Devon.

I had to complete a YouGov poll a few months ago on what I used cash for and the list seemed endless. Car park fees, newspapers, tips, charity collecting boxes, greetings cards, postage stamps, gifts, small groceries in independent shops etc etc.
My purse sometimes weighs more than the rest of my handbag contents together. So the idea of only having a cashcard sounds potentially useful. But I’m sure the baker, butcher and candlestick maker will not be ready for many a long year to allow me to buy a couple of bread rolls on a card.

  • Saw you in the Telegraph today…..you are very cute…shame you have a g/f…sighs..
